Bob Hope Christmas Concert

Bob Hope, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Greetings,
This picture was taken at the Port of San Diego last summer at sunset. At the pier there is a tribute to Bob Hope for his love and caring performances for our troops though out the years. He would have a Holiday show for many years for the young men and women fighting for our freedom around the world. This is a part of several statues showing the troops standing around listening to him. Very impressive.

I can almost feel the presents of this great entertainer. The artist really captured the emotion of the scene, touching.

Usually, I do not like to take a picture into the sun. I have a UV filter that I put on to help soften the shot. However, a polarizing lens would have improved the look of this shot even more. I like the glow around his head and the soften of the sail boats in the background. The water seems to just glitter. Isn't light just incredible? you never know the real out come until you get home and put it on your computer.

Have a great day! Pray that our troops will be home soon..

Fairy of the Rose Garden

IMG_4421 copy5, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Greetings!
I thought this might be fun to explore today... I have some fairy figurines that I took some quick pictures of and had a little fun in Photo Shop. I like the out come it looks a little whimsy with softness. You have to love fairies, they make your heart flutter with happiness.

Photo Shop is great, you can take a not so good picture and turn it into something of value if you have a little imagination and feel creative.
I used the Posterized and watercolor filters and added some saturation and look what happened? She is flying in the wind the air is dancing all about.

I highly recommend Photo Shop CS3 for hours of fun and entertainment.

Have a great day!

Happy Thanksgiving

IMG_6604-2, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Greetings,
Now this is a picture of what? Turkey legs roasting on an open fire. It was indeed the closest picture that I could find to the all American turkey tradition. Even in difficult times we all eat too much on this holiday.

Thanksgiving is a great time to reflect our year is soon to come to an end and to be thankful for all that we have. We can look back and think about the accomplishments of this year and tie up some loose ends before we start into the next. What important event has happened this year? How can I make a difference to make next year a better year? I know that some are having a down turn in their finances, but if you work at being the best that you can be, you will be ok. Things seam to always work out for the best. Remember, when one door is closed another is opened.

I like to start each day asking myself; how can I make a difference in someones life? I think about how to put a smile on someone's face or show them that I care. I'm thankful for my family and friends.

What is wrong with this picture? This shot was a quick snap at a fair a few years ago. I struggle with outdoor pictures that some areas get too much light and other areas are too dark. I have a Photoflex white disc that I did not have with me that day but wish that I had. The disc is about 3 feet when extended and would shade some of this direct light out and I could have used a flash to lighten up some of the dark areas.
The Photoflex disc twists up similar to an auto window sun screen with a final size of less than a foot disc for easier handling when carrying it about. I wish that I could carry all of my little photo aids with me but that would be impossible unless I was willing to tote a mule pack.

I highly recommend the Photoflex products and especially this item. It has a reversible cover that has different tones(gold tone and silver tone) to aid when taking out door portraits or close photos. You really need to have an other person with you to hold it up while you take the picture. I have put it on stand when shooting by myself, but tends to blow around if there is any kind of a wind. It works best if you have someone hold it in the correct position to either reflect light into dark areas or shade out a white spot.

Gobble, Gobble Happy Thanksgiving!

Big Island Hawaii

Big Island Hawaii, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Aloha, I think that I'm ready for a trip to the Big Island Hawaii. I was viewing a few pictures today and ran across this one. I feel a sudden peace when I think of the song to my soul from the sounds of the ocean hitting on the rocks. We all need a little break from the day to day routine if only in our dreams. This picture was taken at the south most shore of the Big Island of Hawaii. Hawaii has it's own time, Island Time... It's a retreat to time past when schedules really do not need to be met.

USING PHOTO SHOP ELEMENTS TO ENHANCE PICTURES...
I have recently taken a class at a local community college on Photo Shop Elements, the program is quite impressive for the cost. I normally use Adobe Photo Shop CS3, for the cost of the program it is well worth looking into. You can obtain many of the same results as in the higher end Photo Shop. Many of the tools and actions are very similar to Photo Shop. The program will store and file your photographs as well as quick fix them. Although, some of the results from the quick fix feature are not too my liking. The program is easy to navigate and you could be well on your way of photo corrections within a few hours of training.

Once you begin to correct photos you may get lost in the awe of it. It is always best to keep your photographs as close to normal as possible. This meaning that the artistic values can some times be just too much and take away from the true honesty of your picture. First, learn what each tool does to the photo. Experiment, have fun and remember not to edit your original. Always SAVE AS and create a new image, it is preferred to SAVE AS a TIFF file or PSD file to retain the original value of the picture. JPEG files reduce the quality as you open and close them..... If you don't like the out come just don't SAVE the image and your original will return....

Enjoy the perfect sounds of the ocean today!

YES WE CAN..

Hi!
This picture was taken at Art Alley in Rapid City South Dakota. I think that Obama must have had a visit to this creative walkway when in search of his campaign theme. It may have been here that he picked up the slogan YES WE CAN.. I think that the Artist Alley concept is a great idea; an artist can with a simple nod of the head put his statement in the Art Alley. It draws a great deal of attention and is one of the highlights in Rapid City.
Every artist likes their work to be shown for others to enjoy this is a simple venue but effective. In Europe, being and artist is a great honor and people have a high regard for your talent. In America, an artist is not encouraged or promoted in the same manner.

Promoting your ART....
If you are trying to break through in the creative world use every venue available to you. There are grants and contests. Talk to your friends and see if they know anyone in the Art World. Join Art Groups that meet locally and also online. Try local Cafe and Public Buildings that maybe willing to show your art work. If you are a photographer; use Photrade or Istock to get your pictures out there. You will get some great feed back on how to improve your skills. Talk to people that are making a living in Art. Make a website showing your art and learn how to promote and market it.

Good luck! YES WE CAN!!!

Fire and Flora in the Fall 2008

Hello,
This picture was taken in Minnesota a few weeks ago at the Woodland Lake Wildlife Center. It was a great place to enjoy nature at it's best. The hiking trail brought back memories walking through the leaves and listening to the crunching sounds. There was a young red fox that crossed my path, much to quick for me to get a great shot, but still great memories.

That is one of the things that I like best about photography; you are recording your life and memories. It is a great way to bring back the cherished happenings of your life. When you get older and can not get out you still have the memories of your life in this exciting form of media.

PICTURE FORMAT AND SIZING FOR PRINT AND FRAIMING
For several years I had taken photographs and never spent the time learn the best way to get your prints on paper. I had several high end photo printers but never got the results that I was determined to have. I almost gave up until I was forced to understand Picture Format and Sizing which helps in selling and framing your pieces.

My Camera, the Digital Canon 40D shoots in a 2x3 format. This means that a multiple of 2"x3" would be a perfect fit for a 4"x6", 8"x12", 12"x18", 16"x24" finished prints. If you would like to have a final print in the more common frame sizes you would need to crop the picture to a 3x4 format, an example would be taking about 4" off the longest side of a 16"x24" print. When cropping use constraints on your photo editing to achieve the correct ratio. When shooting with a 2x3 format camera keep in mind the picture out come. You may want to take a few shots with a 3x4 format in mind, knowing that a small amount will but cropped off in editing. The picture that I'm featuring today really could be cropped to a 3x4 format without forfeiting the interest of the picture. I have several photographs that just look better as a 2x4 format and cropping would take away from the intent of the photograph. Matting and Framing is very expensive for this size unless you get into do-it-yourself projects.

The cameras that shoot in a 3x4 format gives you prints in the standard sizes for framing; 8"x10" and 16"x20", etc. This makes it less expensive to frame photographs, because the standard size has not changed since the good old film days. These cameras are usually used for portrait photographs.

Personally, I do as little cropping as possible because your end result will be sharper. For the most part I shoot the picture as intended for a final result and only crop to straighten the picture or clean up an edge.

Happy Cropping!!!!

Out of the Dark of Night

IMG_6618.JPG, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Happy Halloween to all.....

Today is a celebration of the evening and how did this all get started? It started in Europe many, many years ago All Saint's Day and actually was celebration of the Saints that passed on from this world to the greater world the past year. Today the church celebrates the day as a memorial to those that have pasted during the past year. People would try to ward off evil spirits and that is how the costumes became a part of what is now called Halloween.
I think that the best part of this day is to watch the small children come to my door, dressed as some cartoon character or scary witch with the fearful look on their face looking for a treat. Once they discover how this all works they soon run from house to house and hate for it to come to an end..

PACKAGING YOUR PHOTOS FOR SALE
You may ask if I'm interested in selling my Photos to others what is the best way to present them..

First, print the photos at a professional lab on archival products, this is products that will with stand the problem of time. Spare no cost this makes a big difference on the out come of your product. A great selling point.

Second, do not touch your photos without wearing cotton gloves or at least plastic gloves. The oils on your hands damage the photos. They appear to be used Photographs if they have finger prints on them. Remember

Third, buy Acid Free Foam Core Board for backing and Acid Free Sleeve Bags to package your Photos. The Foam Core Board should be 1/8" larger that the photograph so that the corners don't get crushed. When cutting the Foam Core Board make sure that your cutting is straight and clean. It makes a difference to be professional.

You can search the internet to find the best price on these products, some of the places that I have found are FramerIsland.com for the Foam Core Board and Bagsunlimited.com for the Acid Free Sleeves.

Have a Happy and Safe Halloween.... Boo!

Fire and Flora in the Fall 2008

The last rose standing, fall is here and the Lake Harriet Rose Gardens are beginning to show the wear of the cold weather. As each petal falls we are reminded that another year is coming to a close.

We tell ourselves of the bitter-sweet year... watching the most unusual Presidential Campaign which looks a great deal like a mid-day drama on TV, thinking of how my 401k has almost vaporized before my very eyes and last but not least the new path that I dared to take. Like this rose we must show our most beautiful side and hold on as long as we can to that most perfect show.

Would you like to start a photography business? Just do it. It is very simple to get started. First, take some fabulous pictures and learn everything you can about your camera and equipment. Take the time to do a lot of research and take classes of the correct way to take pictures. Pal around with people that have the same interest in Photography. Define your talent and find your venue or theme. Start to enter contests and get some feed back on your work. Join some local Art Guilds and Clubs, get into the network of the Art Industry and make some contacts. Take a chance.

Find some local Cafes, Public Buildings, and shops that will hang your photographs to sell. Make sure that the are fairly large pieces so they do not get up and walk away. Start a Blog and an on line gallery web site to show case your photos.

These are the steps that I took to start...Research on the internet and select a name for your photo business. Make your name a TRADE NAME with your Secretary of State. Get some business cards, open a business checking account with your bank and get a business credit card. Check with your state to see what the retail tax laws are. You may have to get a State Transaction Tax Liccense and City Vendor License.

I hope this helps to get you started... Best of Luck to you.....

Fire and Flora in the Fall 2008

Hello,
I'm back after an extended trip to the north country. The colors were wonderful. I only wish that the desert had this rage of color in the fall. I took a trip along the Mississippi River to see some fall colors. I may have been a week or two late but was able to snap a few great shots.

This week I went to a class on Marketing my Photography and ART from the local Community College. I did learn a great deal and would like to share with you some thoughts from the class.

First, find a common theme for your photography or art work, become an expert at it, it may be BW, Macro, a picture theme or style. This will define you as an artist.

Second, build yourself a resume; education, experience, awards of your work and participation of Festivals or shows.

Third, research Galleries to see where your art will fit in best, same style or media.

Create a packet showing your work. The packet should include: a DVD Power Point of 5-7 pieces of your work (make sure that the picture is perfect) giving noted details of each piece, a resume, your business card, a printed picture or post card and a self address envelope (so your packet can be returned when they have reviewed it). Sometimes Galleries require slide shots of your work, this is part of your research before you start what the Gallery requirements are.

Your goal should be to have 10 packets out at all times.

These are some quick ideas on how to get started.... Good luck!

Palace of the Prince Monaco

Paris, Nice, France 2006, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Bonjour...
This is a picture of the Prince's Palace in Monaco. I love the patina of this picture, the long great walkway and the red carpet. Royality , leaders, and greatness must walked on this street centuries ago. The decayed walls just speak to me and leads me to think about the grandor that paraded this arch. What happened here? Was there a war? A stand off? Did the carriages of great men and woman of the time make their way to the Palace for an important event? A Royal Wedding or a Ball?

A picture can tell a story or it can make you think of one. A picture can bring back memories or mark history. Taking pictures puts the day, event or happening into your personal history. I would like to encourage everyone to pick up a camera and mark this historic day.

The stock market is lower today that any other day since 2004. If you listen to the news we are going to have financial ruin. I choose to think that we are heading to better days. This may just be a wake up call as to looking at the important things in life. Now is the time to put your agenda in order. Think about how we have been blessed with prosperity, health and happiness. I believe good things will happen because of this side step.

Make great things happen.... make history.

The Louvre Paris France

Paris, Nice, France 2006, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

What is with this place? It draws attention and it had class. This is an interesting place to visit. I was very impressed at the commitment to the Arts that France had even years ago. The Men that studied here dedicated their lives to the Arts. The building is enchanting. I love the details of the rooms and the ceilings put you in a state of awe. There is mystery in these walls that Dan Brown wrote about in his book. I wonder how much is truth and how much was just his imagination...

The Mona Lisa sits within these walls, although it would have been nice to take a picture of her, it wasn't allowed. Wouldn't it be great to create a piece of art that was revered though the ages? Hundreds of people stood in line to get a glimpse of that well known smile and that soft look in her eyes.

The Louvre Paris

The Louvre Paris, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

It's all about perspective. This is a well known structure. Thousands of pictures have been taken of the Louvre. I ask myself how can I look at this differently then anyone else has before? It was a rainy day in Paris, there was not a white puffy cloud to capture, only wet gray skies. You have to ask yourself.... How can I make the best of this photography nightmare? How can I make this more interesting, more graphic, more abstract? With the absence of color use that as a positive and not a negative. When you are traveling you really have to learn to make the very best of the weather variables.

I know one trip I made a few years ago to Ft Lauderdale, Florida. It was just after a hurricane, the storm was not widely mentioned in the news and I had no idea of what I would face. When I arrived the palm trees were ripped apart, I mean shredded to pieces. That meant no beach shots with palm trees or any other scenic shot. All of the light posts and neon signs were blown out, as well as many windows to some beautiful buildings were broken, including our hotel which had so much water damage, we opted to leave early and move on.

I really like this picture, when you look at for a while it seems to take on different angles. If I didn't tell you what it was a picture of you would not know. Think about what is beyond the grid. Think about what this grid represents. Think about the history that is below it. Think about how popular this place is. Think about who walk in this very place. I know that Tom Hanks did...

San Diego California 2008

San Diego California 2008, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Ahoy!
It is a wonderful llfe.. As I walked the decks of these old Tall Sail Ships, I wonder what it would be like to be a part of this culture. Would I care if the stock market is down one day and up the next? Would I care if Sarah Palin was a Hockey Mom that wore lipstick and not a pit bull? Would I care that there is a war on the other side of the world? or that I hadn't taken a shower in a week? Probably not.

I would only care about the elements of the earth, the winds and the storms to be at natures mercy. It would show me the calm of the earth on a starry night and the uncontrolled fury that the Seas can bring forth at a moments notice. I would watch the whales and dolphins dance and perform for me , yet shelter their young. I can only imagine the stories that this life on the waters could tell; those of Pirates and those of compassion. People of all ages traveling across an ocean for a better opportunity, a fresh start and looking to accomplish that dream.

We are all looking for that better life... Have a great day!

Minnesota Fall

IMG_7297.JPG, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Hello,
It is the season of crisp red leaves and the smell of fires burning in the chimney. I can feel the chill in the air, the leaves crunching beneath my feet while the days are getting shorter. This is only getting a glimpse of what will lay ahead in the long cold winter months ahead.

Each season has is beauty, it's purpose and dreams. I make plans for the Holidays and try my hand at picking out that special gift of each of my loved ones. We begin to think what will I face in the coming year ahead. What have I accomplished in the year that is fading? Have I used the gift of each day as I should? Where will I be next year at this time?

As I wander down this path, I wonder where it leads to?

French Green

French Green, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

This unusual leafy green textured plant touched with hot red stems was something that I have never seen before, I absolutely had to take a picture. This picture was taken in a garden in Paris, France. I must say that the french take pride in their parks and grounds. The well manicured flora and greenery dresses the walkways and public areas; to enjoy this chairs are provided to sit and enjoy the beauty on your extended midday break.

Happy days are here again!

Laundry to Dry Villefranche sur Mer France

IMG_1936.JPG, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Good day my friend!
I love the unusual, the out of the ordinary, the old decay or anything between, it has personality, charm and makes your photograph more interesting. I look at details such as the different color of clothes pins, the pillow case that is inside out with an airplane on it and the colorful rags that serve their purpose to the owner. I think about this picture and I start to wonder... who owns this laundry what are they like, what do the do for work. How is there culture different than mine?

This picture was taken on a narrow street in Villefranche sur Mer, France, but looks a great deal like an alley way to me. The buildings are half painted and very old, this is part of the patina of the quaint village on the Mediterranean Sea. Just down the street at the Harbor, there is an old Russian Church and a one time Palace-now used for offices and art. There is so much history in this village, trading at the Harbor, the great shops, fine dining and the underground tunnel is a historic landmark.

I highly recommend a trip to this captivating place.

Be happy and enjoy your day!

Waimea Canyon Kauai Hawaii

IMG_6314.JPG, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Hey!
This is Kauai's version of the Grand Canyon. The pictures do not show the beauty of this geo wonder. The fire orange color and the green scapes were breath taking, the clouds settled over the horizon. The trip to the canyon was a real joy ride, with the winding roads and steeeeep inclines, just to dip down quickly. The roads are narrow, however there are many look out points to stop and take pictures.

It's a beautiful day... be happy!

Vet's Musuem Branson- Ammo Belts

Branson, MO 2008 Reunion, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

When you have over 25,000 pictures, it is not hard to find some unusual stuff an example would be these ammo belts. This summer when visiting Branson, Missouri, we made a stop at the Veteran's Military Museum. If you are interested in all facets of the Military history this is a place to stop. Many of the items are displayed in glass so it makes it difficult to get the great shots that we would all like to get. If you are creative you will walk away with quality pictures that have real value. You will learn the history of our American Military; take a few minutes to reflect on what it took to make this country so great, the men and women who walked the extra mile for freedom.

Branson has a high regard for our Vets. They are honored at all of the shows and many attractions will give Military discounts.

America the Great!

Chihuly Glass Exhibit Tacoma Washington

IMG_5945.JPG, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Hello to all!
I just came across this picture on a trip to Washington state a few years ago. What a wonderful experience to capture these great works of art.
Dale Chihuly has a talent for color and expression through blown glass art. The massive Bridge of Glass at the Museum of Glass at the dock in Tacoma is spectacular. The City Building next to the bridge has several of he pieces on display including a free spirited piece in the atrium that must be 20 feet in height. There is no wonder why Chihuly is known internationally for his glass works.

Enjoy other pictures on flickr.... Have a great day!

Boyce Thompson Arboretum 2008

This picture is for my Arizona friends... One of my favorite places to stop for photographs is the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. It is located just east of the Phoenix area in Superior, Arizona. Superior is an old decayed mining town with a lot of photo opportunity.

At the arboretum, you will find many native plants and flora to Arizona. It has a great walking path revealing the many faces of our great desert. They have a Herb Garden that is very quaint, just outside of a dwelling of settlers to the area. On the top of the hill over looking the Arboretum there is a mansion that Boyce Thompson once lived.

Don't you find Cactus interesting with the unusual patterns and colors? They can exist in our extremely hot summers and even present a great bloom of color for us to enjoy. Now that the temps are cooling in the desert it is time to get out and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Get out and take in a breath of fresh air!

Baby Orangutan Phoenix Zoo

Baby Orangutan Phoenix Zoo, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Good Morning America!
Don't you want to adopt this little guy? He is so cute and sweet. The Zoo is one of my favorite places to take pictures. There is always great subject matter. Also, lots of unusual activity and people enjoying the day. It is best to go in the morning at feeding time the animals are usually out at that time. I know in Arizona you have to consider it in the fall, winter or spring because the animals won't be out to capture on your camera; not even humans!

Have a great day and think out of the box. Learn something today that you never knew before.... Shalom!

Wall Drug Store South Dakota 2008

I found this gent at the Wall Drug Store in South Dakota. On the road for miles and miles you will find many signs leading you up to this icon. How could you possibly pass it up with the platform they set. Offerings of fresh home made donuts, 5 cent coffee, great food and Levi jeans, not to mention hundreds of other items. What a marketing plan! Wall Drug Store started out to be a little Ma and Pa place of yesteryear turned into a multi-faceted emporium with a down home western flair. You could find almost anything you would ever think of in this place and then some.

This gent, although I didn't catch his name, is made of wax, he looks almost real. They have several other interesting replicas of old west culture and artifacts displayed. As I walked around the not so much a drug store anymore, I noticed a feel of the early 60's. I could imagine that I was on vacation with my family back then and stopped at a place like this to do a little shopping, not much has changed here and I think Wall Drug wants to keep it that way.

Another interesting, must see stop not far from here is the Badland's National Park. The National Park system did find the right name for the Badland's there is not any other name I would pick for it.

Enjoy today for life is too short to sweat the small stuff!

Lighthouse Navy Pier-Chicago

IMG_6232.JPG, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

It was a stormy day, the lifeless grays took over the sky and waters reflection. The gusty twisting winds made it nearly impossible to hold my camera with the telephoto lens, I could only take shots between the blast of air. Is this why they call it the Windy City? I can just feel the cold north winds on the Great Lake Michigan when ships would come into this harbor with supplies and loads. This picture was taken at the Navy Pier in Chicago.

The Navy Pier has been made into an extraordinaire place to stop, you will find shops, carnival rides and many eateries to enjoy. There is a great public park with several pieces of commissioned art work. From this Pier you could take a quick sightseeing boat trip through the downtown area snapping some great pictures of buildings and bridges. You will pass many very interesting unique people to capture on your camera.

Kaleidoscope Sky

Kaleidoscope Sky, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Kaleidoscope Sky.... I love this capture, the colors, contrast and depth of this picture grabs me, moves me.

I start to ask myself what is it? How does it work? I want to look inside and see what is going on in there. How did some artist make this? The details and colors. There are several twisting knobs and do-dads to interact with this piece of creative matter. What is it doing mounted on the sidewalk next to the street facing the Pacific Ocean? It sparks interest in the young and the old, there are no age boundaries. You absolutely can not walk by this without stopping to investigate it's possibilities. This artist understands the concept of light and color allowing us all to enjoy.

Allow your beam of light to shine and touch someone!

Tall Sail Festival San Diego 2008

I couldn't resist one last picture from San Diego.... This shot shows how brave the Coast Guard men and women are; to climb to the top of the mast, pull and tie the sails for the night. This is real team work, they are all interdependent on one another to accomplish this feat. They are standing or balancing on a rope at least 35-40 feet high above the Eagle ship deck... what a sight! I'm still in awe from watching them, it almost felt like I was at the Circus watching a high wire act, but this was real life not a show. They caught the attention of everyone on the street below.
To see other pictures of this Tall Sail Ship visit Flickr at the link to the right of this post.
I love photography! Don't you?

The Door to Peace

IMG_3350, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

In memory of 9/11, I'm posting this decay picture taken in Bisbee, Arizona. One symbol says it all "Let there be Peace". How can we accomplish it? We can all work together to make peace in our families, among our friends and co-workers. Just allow it to happen, overlooking the small stuff....and go into the Door of Peace. We have to start somewhere and why not in our own personal environment?

I would like to make a tribute and honor those brave souls on Flight 93. If they had not taken the leap of faith, the attacks would have been even more of a disaster with many more fatalities. I can't even imagine what was going through their minds in the final moments. Selfless acts like this is what makes America so great. Thank you passengers of flight 93. My hat goes off to you today!

Peace be with you!

Two Harbors Lighthouse, Minnesota 2008

Two Harbors, Minnesota 2008, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Two Harbors Lighthouse was a pleasant surprise, nestled on the harbor of Lake Superior. Mining ships would load up and take the ore to the steel factories. There is a great deal of history in this area, several interesting sites. You can actually stay at the Bed and Breakfast in this lighthouse for a unique experience. A museum located at the lighthouse that talks about the history of the area and the house is filled with decor that shows us what the lighthouse keepers home might look like in yesteryear.

Just a few blocks from here there is a Train Depot that has been rebuilt with several steam engine trains and a museum. Back in the day; trains were an important means of transportation and on this trip I have noticed that trains are being used more than in the past decade due to high gas prices.

Near by is Gooseberry Falls State Park with a great water falls and a nature walk. Then there is Split Rock Lighthouse the ultimate in lighthouses, peeking over the ridge over looking Lake Superior., just a few miles down the road.

I felt as though I had stepped back in time when I took this picture. The two chairs sitting out in the front. I could just imagine overlooking Lake Superior waiting for the ships to come in.

Black Hills 1880 Train Ride 2008

This steam engine train would take supplies to the mining camp back in the 1880s. On our trip to the Mount Rushmore area, we took a ride on this 1880 Black Hills Train; it's starting point was Keystone, Wyoming to Hill City at a 10 mile per hour rate of speed. This ride was a step back in time, along the train route you would see the old mining camp, nature at it's best, abundant wildlife and unspoiled artifacts. The viewing from the train was great for taking several pictures. There was a nice stop for lunch in Hill City and back on the return train ride.

This is narrated tour, so you do learn many facts about the area and interesting points along the way. This is an attraction that the kids just love. I have several pictures on Flickr, so please take a peek and enjoy! Cinda Marie

Yellowstone National Park Wyoming 2008

Buffalo, leader of the pack...I have my eyes on you!

As we drove on the main road of Yellowstone Park the traffic came to a halt. After a few minutes of trying to figure out exactly what was happening ahead we came across several buffalo slowly walking on the road. Fortunately, they were on the oncoming side of the road because traffic was backed up for miles, as the quietly tromped along. How often can to open your window, reach out and touch a buffalo. Now that doesn't happen every day!

There are real adventures in Yellowstone, not the commercial kind, but the good old fashion kind. Hiking, fishing, boating, camping and cabins for those of us that like that hot shower in the morning.

There are many interesting and beautiful sights here that will take your breath away. I'm in awe at the natural splendor that I found here. It will rock you... To see more flickr picks Google- Cinda Marie Photography.

Mount Rushmore National Monument South Dakota 2008

I thought it would be a good idea to bring a little politics into my blog, since the TV is bringing the campaign to us in such a dramatic manner... I wonder if they will add George W. Bush to this great monument? NO. John McCain or better yet Sara Palin, will she be the first woman to be added? I don't think so.... it's Obama that is going to bring us out of the economic mess we are in.. If it's CHANGE you are looking for then put Obama up here. I think that if you take Lincoln and make a few minor changes it might just work. What do you think... can we do it in 60 days?

Seriously, I was moved by the greatness of this Mount Rushmore National Monument. A tribute to our Presidents of past. We are very lucky to live in America, it's almost like winning the lottery to be a part of this great country. Let Freedom ring... Speak your mind, stand up for what you believe in and take the time to vote. Your vote does count!

Several men worked on the piece of art that is a symbol of our freedom. Some even lost their lives blasting out the images on this project so we all may be reminded of how we got to be a nation of greatness and how we must work together to regain our strength.

Grand Teton National Park Wyoming 2008

Hey... This picture was taken this past summer when I was on a month long journey to fourteen states and fifty-eight hundred miles. This is Jenny Lake, Wyoming.. breathtaking scenery and wildlife. In this area you would see herds of buffalo and elk just grazing in the grassy hills The snow capped mountains in June, what a treat when you live in Arizona! There were great photo opportunities here! You don't have to wonder why I have over 30 thousand pictures on my MAC.

When I took this picture I could feel the stillness in the crisp misty air, smell the pines and experience the calming of the soul. We don't often take time to appreciate the great beauty of this earth. We all need to slow down and enjoy!

Shamu Shamu 2008

Shamu Shamu 2008, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

The crowd roars Shamu Shamu and they perform. How amazing are these killer whales? They have grace, beauty and personality. They can make that audience come to their feet if you are in the soak zone. The trainers are serious about the soak zone, but how much fun is it to get wet on a hot day? The show would not be the same without it.

There are lots of great pictures to be taken here at Sea World. If you love sea animals, the water and the great out doors it is an educational trip for your family. There are many hands on attractions and special events to bring you closer to these sea creatures. This is well worth the stop to enjoy the near perfect San Diego weather.

I only wish that I could jump this high. Shamu Shamu....

Battle of the Bug

Battle of the Bug, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

These two bees were fighting over their spot on this flower. Who would win? The larger bumble bee did win the spar.

This photograph was taken in the garden of Ronald Regan's boyhood home in Dixon, IL. The house has many historical memories of his childhood, acting career and life as a President.

I would like to think that this picture is really saying a statement. These bees are not interested in the dried flora in the background, their only interest was in the fresh nearly perfect bloom with the sweetness. Isn't this a lot like human nature? Looking for the best, prettiest or something that someone else has under their domain? I have to admire the smaller little guy for taking the chance and putting his best foot forward to get what he wanted. We all need to try no matter how difficult the situation might be.

This sunny yellow flower has great color, clarity and simply says it's a sunshine happy day!

Festival of the Tall Sail Port of San Diego 2008

Last weekend was the celebrate of the Tall Ships at the Port of San Diego, There were two dozen Tall Sail Ship from around the world. They were exceptional to take pictures of; these superior vessels of the sea. The sky was blue, the water calm and the weather, as usual, was next to perfect. There were so many interesting people enjoying the day in the park watching this fab event. If you would like to see more of the ships that took part in this event check out my flickr link...

It was amazing to watch the sailors work on the masts, no idea that bravery was a job requirement for these guys and gals of the sea. Happy sailing to all!

Tribute to Bob Hope

Bob Hope, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

This is a picture taken of Bob Hope's Statue that stands at the San Diego Bay just next to the battle ship Midway. He was a legend that entertained our troops, this is photo shows him singing but the troops are watching him in this piece of art, how touching. I wish you could see this.

San Diego makes a statement that the ARTS are important; as you walk along this ocean front you can see how they have expressed and allowed the art community to make a difference here. There are many commissioned pieces that really stir your creative insights. One of my favorites was the over-sized kalidescope, it was very entertaining.

Balboa Park San Diego

IMG_2901.JPG, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Great Day in the Park!
Want a relaxing stroll in the park with a lot of interesting worthwhile shots? Balboa Park is the answer when in San Diego. Her you will find several museums, fountains and coves. The buildings at Balboa Park present a variety of interesting backdrops for you photos. You will want to check out the Japanese Garden, beautiful!!! Explore this green lush haven in the big city.

Like to take pictures of animals? Visit the San Diego Zoo. The best time to visit is in the morning around feeding time, it seems as though the animals are in their prime posing positions. I like to take the pictures as if they were a portrait of a person. I always try to shoot the face and eyes. If you can capture the eyes you can enter into the soul of the animal and just imagine what they are thinking.

Happy shooting...

Sailing San Diego

IMG_3252.JPG, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

San Diego... What a place to visit! I'm in the San Diego mode; this was a picture that I took last year. I will have some shots on flickr in a few days from my recent trip; some of the pics are incredible.

This week the Tall Sail Festival 2008 is going on and it will run through Sunday August 24th. It is well worth the trip if you can make it. Every year Tall Sail Ships meet in San Diego from around the world. It was amazing to see the sailors walk on the high ropes to tie the masts. There is plenty of people watching, digital camera buffs and strange and unusual things happening on Harbor Drive, downtown.

The Cabrillo Lighthouse is located near Loma Point overlooking the city. You can take great full shots of the city and bay area. It is best if you hit the Lighthouse after the morning fog lifts, most days 11AM. It is a National Park so there is a fee to get in.

Just below the Lighthouse are the Tide Pools. Here you will find there are great natural rock formations, ocean waves and surfers seem to gather.

Think out of the box. Bring your creative ability to the next level.

Bye for now!

Sea Monster San Diego California

IMG_2957.JPG, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

On the Road Again, traveling today to one of my favorite cities: San Diego. I snapped this picture at Balboa Park on one of my past trips. Actually, it is one of the fountains located in the courtyard.

San Diego is a paradise for a photographer with all of the terrific sites and points of interest... and the weather is near perfect. If you enjoy people watching, this is the place to visit. A few of my fav's are the Wharf, the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, the sandy beaches and not to exclude Sea Port Village.

Take a peek at additional pictures on Flickr...

Have a great day!

Kauai

IMG_6601.JPG, originally uploaded by cinda marie.

Greetings... This is a photograph taken on Hawaiian Trip to the Garden Island of Kauai. Kauai is known for it's lush green mountains, beautiful sandy beaches. I'm entertained by photographing Hawaiian Flora, I had a difficult time finding exactly what I was looking for in subject matter. This island has two Botanical Gardens filled with beautiful trees and walkways resulting in several outstanding shots, but very little in the way of flowers. The place where I found the best flora to snap was in the resort gardens and a roadside garden center open to the public.

There are many attractions to explore and tours of the Island. My favorite tour was the Movie Tour showing places of interest where famous movies were filmed. The stop on the top of my list was the Coco Palms Resort; it was damaged in a hurricane over 15 years ago. The classic movie Blue Hawaii starring Elvis Presley was filmed there bringing many of the scenes to life.

Get close and personal to your subject!

Bayfield, Madeline Island, Wisconsin 2008

This summer I took a trip exploring fourteen states and traveling 5800 miles. I met people that were so interesting from all walks of life. I saw the beauty of this great country. One thing that I brought back from this trip; every place I stopped had it's very own personality, flavor and culture unique to itself. This is a picture of the Marina at Bayfield, Wisconsin, located on Lake Superior. The 22 Apostle Islands are near this Marina and if you have a love for sailing this is the place for you to visit.
